In the quaint town of Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, a ginger tom named Peanut has become the talk of the town for his unusual hobby: pub crawling.
Over the past six months, Peanut has become a beloved regular at several local pubs, charming patrons and staff with his friendly demeanour.
Peanut’s proud owner, Helen Wilson shared her delight with his newfound fame. “He loves a fuss; I am so pleased he is so contented,” she said, reflecting on Peanut’s adventurous spirit.
Helen, who has had Peanut since he was seven weeks old, recounted how he began his escapades.
“After keeping him inside for a while, he started to venture out and would disappear” she explained, discovering his frequent visits to the George Hotel.
Peanut’s presence at the George Hotel on the town’s High Street has not gone unnoticed.
Diane Maher, the landlady of the George, first encountered Peanut at the Bramley House Hotel. Since then, he has become a fixture at her establishment.
“He is becoming Facebook famous. Everyone loves to fuss him,” Maher remarked. Her fondness for the feline is evident, as she has gone to great lengths to make him feel welcome, including installing a bed for him and treating him to a Christmas stocking.
Maher observed that Peanut would show up in all kinds of weather, sometimes looking “a bit bedraggled and sorry for himself.” But her affection for him quickly grew. “As an animal lover, I soon grew to love him,” she added.
Peanut’s popularity isn’t confined to just one pub. He has also been seen at the Chatteris Working Men’s Club, particularly around the smoking area, where regulars and visitors adore him.
“He has gained quite a following – my regulars always look out for him,” Maher noted, highlighting the community’s affection for their four-legged friend.
The story of Peanut, the pub-crawling cat of Chatteris, is a heartwarming tale of a cat’s endearing antics and the community that has embraced him.
From a young kitten to a local celebrity, Peanut’s adventures continue to delight and surprise, proving he likes nothing more than a good pub crawl.
